It’s been a little while since we last looked at some casino and gambling news from the US and around the world so if you fancy a break from playing USA online slots and casino games then read on and stay up to date with online casino developments.

10% to Gamble Online by 2019

Whilst online gambling is still something of a taboo here in the US (and despite being the land of the free and the home of the brave our online activities are far from free), in many countries around the world online gambling is widespread. International analysis company Juniper Research, a UK firm, has predicted that 10% of adults worldwide will engage in online betting before 2020. Whilst the UK and Italy lead the way in this area, the company pointed to research that showed the profitability of legal and semi-regulated gambling here in the USA means expansion and further deregulation is likely. It can’t come soon enough!

Huge Baseball Win for Irish Bettor

Earlier this month an unnamed baseball fan from Dublin, Ireland, truly had the luck of the Irish as he landed a wager worth more than $100,000! The 46-year-old took UK giant William Hill to the cleaners with a parlay of around $78 that landed at huge, huge odds, as all 15 home teams won in the Major League, the first time that had ever happened in the history of the MLB.

Department of Justice Sued

Conservative foundation Judicial Watch is suing the Department of Justice over the 2011 revision to the Wire Act of 1961. This could be a major blow for online gamblers in the USA as it questions the legality of the decision to rule that only sporting events were covered by Wire Act and Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act of 2006 and other similar laws.

The decision in 2011 paved the way for intrastate online gambling in Nevada, New Jersey and Delaware and also enabled certain states to sell lottery tickets online. As ever, the right wing Judicial Watch is seeking to stop the fun and curtail the liberties of the individual. We’ll be watching this one closely, that’s for sure.
