With the best record aside from these two the 45-18 that Cleveland have in the East, it’s no surprise that the Warriors and the Spurs are right up at the top of the betting with all sportsbooks.

In actual fact, it is the Cavs who are second favorites, at odds of +335, sandwiching their two Western Conference rivals. The Warriors are clear and deserved favorites at +100, with the Spurs a shade longer than Cleveland at +380. Beyond those three market leaders the rest of the NBA are priced way out at +1500 or more and few disagree that this is a three horse race.

In fact, few basketball betting experts dare oppose Golden State and we are going with the flow here and agreeing that they simply have to be the ones to beat. Defending an NBA crown is often thought to be harder than winning one and we would agree with that. But Steve Kerr’s side have already done the hard part by making the playoffs – and in real style.

The regular season is where things are tough, especially early on when there can be a psychological hangover from glory. At this point in proceedings we feel their experience of winning is now a positive and as such we’re making the Warriors our pick for the NBA Championship once again. The Super Bowl itself takes place on February 7 at the Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California. After months of grueling battles we’re down to just four teams, with the NFC Championship game set to be contested by the Arizona Cardinals and the Carolina Panthers and the AFC game being a battle between the New England Patriots and the Denver Broncos.

The Super Bowl betting is incredibly close right now, with the sportsbooks struggling to separate the four sides. It’s the Panthers who are marginal favorites to go all the way though, currently priced at +220 but as short as +187 at some books, whilst the Pats are next at a very similar price of +225. Illustrating just how tight the battle for Super Bowl 50 is expected to be, the Broncos and Cardinals are both available at between +320 and +400 and it’s obvious that any one of the four remaining sides could be crowned champions in San Francisco in just a few weeks’ time.

The fact that the Divisional Playoffs were also very closely fought, with Arizona needing OT to get past Green Bay and all three of the other games being won by exactly seven points, shows what an interesting season we have had and it would take a brave man to make any cast iron predictions about the Championship games (which both take place on January 24).

The Panthers had by far the strongest record in regular season, going 15-1, only losing to the Falcons in Week 16. That was a major surprise but the fact that the Panthers shook that off to overcome the Seahawks in the Divisional Playoffs speaks volumes and on balance we feel that Carolina are the side to be with as they look to secure a first ever Super Bowl. They have been improving very steadily over the past few seasons and their ability to dig in when it really matters is what impresses us most.
