Whilst we spend most of our time playing real money online slots at our favorite USA casinos, every once in a while we like to take in the news and keep abreast of current affairs. Of course, by news, we mean the important stuff – casino news, slots news, gambling news! Here are the latest big stories from around the world that could impact – or even perhaps interest – us slots and online casino fans…

Two Republican Presidential Hopefuls Commit to Online Ban

Senators Lindsey Graham of South Carolina and Marco Rubio of Florida, both of whom are seeking to become the next GOP Presidential candidates have co-sponsored a package to reintroduce the Wire Act. The move would reverse the legalization of online “casino-style” gambling brought in by the Obama administration and would make playing your favorite US-friendly casinos and slots sites a whole lot harder.

Many have argued the move, which would also impact state lotteries online, is simply an attempt to win favor with Sheldon Adelson, the chairman of the Las Vegas Sands Corporation. Adelson, worth an estimated $28bn and a huge Republican donor, is hugely opposed to online gambling. Does he care about the morality of gambling or is he protecting his own vested interests? Do the two Senators have the wellbeing of the American people or Adelson’s (gambling!) fortune as a priority? We’ll let you decide…

Macau Casino Figure Charged With Money Laundering

Cheung Chi-tai has been charged by police in Hong Kong with laundering around $231m through Hong Kong. The 54-year-old, repeatedly alleged to have organized crime connections, was named as a leader of a triad gang by a 1992 U.S. Senate subcommittee report. Macau casinos have come under increasing scrutiny and the casino trade there, now bigger than in Las Vegas, is facing some tough times ahead.

Hope (and a Long Flight) for Atlantic City Casino Workers

Atlantic City has also been through some tough times of late, with four casinos closing in 2014, perhaps due to increased online competition, and a large number of employees have lost their jobs over the last year. For those former staff, there may be hope, in the shape of the Best Sunshine International Casino, opening next month in Saipan, a mere 8,000 miles away!

If you fancy moving to the US Commonwealth things looks good, with experienced staff able to claim free travel, free housing and meals on shifts and even health insurance. Throw in starting pay for dealers of $40,000 and I might just get my passport out!
